Stan Smilack counsels foreign and domestic businesses in connection with international tax matters regarding cross-border transactions, tax legislative and regulatory developments, tax compliance and controversy issues. He counsels institutions regarding the tax consequences of their U.S. and foreign activities and has structured and documented numerous investment funds that invest abroad. Stan frequently advises multinational companies on the application of U.S. anti-boycott rules and the rules relating to the international operation of ships and aircraft.
In addition, Stan advises clients in connection with the availability of credits for establishing and operating facilities for solar energy, wind, open-loop biomass, gasification, and carbon sequestration. He advises clients on excise tax issues relating to fuels, petroleum products, communications, international transportation and insurance.
